Guidance, Navigation, and Controls Engineer, TeamIndus - Axiom Research Labs, India

Region:          Asia

Field:              Engineering/ Technology

Profile:     In March 2013, I came across an exciting article about a team of young Indians competing in a global space race to land a spacecraft on the Moon. It sounded unbelievable. TeamIndus (TI) was the only Indian entrant competing in the Google Lunar XPRIZE (GLXP). I followed them on Facebook, eager to know what they were up to. With each passing day, I grew more inspired by their work.

At the time, I was pursuing a Masters in Control Systems Engineering. My fascination with space led me to do my thesis at the ISRO Satellite Center (ISAC). When I discovered that TeamIndus was looking for engineers, I was thrilled. I could imagine myself being a part of this audacious mission. And today, I am doing exactly that! At TeamIndus, I do what I love – develop Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC) algorithms for a space mission.

Network Activities:     We have formed a platform named Raising Orbit. Summary of the activities are listed below:

Space journeys

Space engineers, space lawyers, policy makers, astronomers, space communicators and Scientists (maybe Astronauts also if we can find 1 for a series) share their journey (trajectory). The path  which has helped them achieve a successful career and path which has been paved for those in the next generation. Also experts share their experiences of success and failures, their learnings and advice to the young. Through these inspiring stories we believe space aspirants and enthusiasts can find their way to fulfill their dreams. Our publishing partner is 500womenscientist.

Career Awareness

Career awareness program is a closed group student program that aims at providing knowledge which can help students and young professionals in making decisions that can lead to careers in the Space sector. Experts from the industry give students a glimpse of their work, their journey and also answer all the questions that questions will have. Through the program we aim to inspire the students, help them understand the skills required and get some answers from our experts in the industry. Henna Khan CEO from Universe Simplified Foundation, aiming to make STEM education accessible to all, will be advising us through the process. Also TeamIndus Foundation has graciously agreed to help us in this program.
